Why Jane Foster Isn't in Thor: Ragnarok

Thor enjoys flying solo in this third film.

There's a simple reason why Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) isn't in Thor: Ragnarok.

While large chunks of the first two Thor movies focused on Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Foster's relationship, it turns out the pair broke up before the events of Ragnarok.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Thor is a slightly different character in this third film, as the Norse god enjoys being single and is more focused on finding out who was manipulating the Avengers in Age of Ultron rather than worrying about a relationship.

“He’s off exploring the universe, still trying to police it and control the mayhem,” Hemsworth told EW. “But he’s certainly enjoying being a drifter, being a solo cowboy out there."

Last year Portman revealed she wouldn't be appearing in Ragnarok, or any other film in the MCU anytime soon, saying as far as she knew at the time, she's done.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige previously addressed Portman's absence from Ragnarok, saying there are "many reasons" why she won't appear in Ragnarok, including the fact that most of the film doesn't take place on Earth.

Thor: Ragnarok opens in theaters on November 3. Check out all of the comics that inspired the film, including Planet Hulk.
