Disney is looking to return to the Tron franchise, as the studio is developing a reboot starring Jared Leto.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leto, who played the Joker in Suicide Squad and will have "a key role" in Blade Runner 2049, is "circling to star" in the reboot, which is said to be "in the very early stages of development."

This isn't the first time we've heard of Leto's potential involvement in the Tron universe. Before Disney pulled the plug on Tron 3 in 2015, the studio was reportedly looking to add Leto to the film's cast.
While the project does not yet have a writer or director, Tron: Legacy co-producer Justin Springer is on board to produce. In the event the film moves forward, Leto and his producing partner Emma Ludbrook would also help produce in some capacity.
The in-development reboot reportedly won't be a direct sequel to the prior films. Leto would play a character named Ares, who didn't appear in the first two films but was an important part of Tron 3's script, the "source code" of which this new film is reportedly being built around.
There's no word on whether or not Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski may return to helm. Likewise, it's unknown if Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde or Jeff Bridges would reprise their roles in any capacity.
