Transformers Spinoff Bumblebee Hires Kubo and the Two Strings Director

The movie opens on June 8, 2018.

Paramount has hired Kubo and the Two Strings director Travis Knight to helm the Transformers spinoff film, Bumblebee.

Variety reports that Paramount has been looking for a director with an animation background specifically, as the studio also held talks with Lego Batman director Chris McKay before deciding on Knight. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Knight also beat out Seth Gordon (Baywatch), the Nee Brothers (Band of Robbers), and Jaume Collet-Sera (The Shallows), who were all in the running to direct the spinoff.

Bumblebee will be Knight's live-action directorial debut.

There are still no plot details revealed about Bumblebee thus far. Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura are producing the movie, with Christina Hudson writing the script. The film is slated for June 8, 2018.

The next upcoming Transformers movie is The Last Knight, which opens in theaters on June 23. Michael Bay announced last month that The Last Knight will be his last Transformers film.
