Super Mario Run Available Early on Android, Major iOS Update Released

Super Mario Runs onto Android devices soon.

Update: Nintendo has released Super Mario Run on Android earlier than expected.

A tweet from Nintendo of America confirms that Super Mario Run is now available on the Google Play store today, March 22, a day ahead of its originally anticipated release date.

Additionally, Nintendo released the 2.0 update of Run on the iOS store, which adds new playable characters and more of the game to play for free. The updates include:

  • New playable characters added — different colored Yoshis are now available. Play Toad Rally with a Yoshi of a particular color to get more Toads of that color.
  • Bowser's Challenges are now available to play for free, and beating them will unlock course 1-4. Beating course 1-4 will open new courses in Toad Rally, while buildings players couldn't previously get would be available in the shop
  • New buildings will be added as part of an upcoming event
  • Rally Tickets are easier to obtain in the Bonus Game House
  • East Mode is available at the entrance of World Tour courses

Original story follows:

Nintendo officially announced a release date for their popular mobile title, Super Mario Run, on Android.

In a tweet from Nintendo America, the company announced that Super Mario Run will be available to Android users March 23.

This is in line with Nintendo’s previous announcement that the mobile title would come to Android in March this year and is still available for interested Android users to pre-register the game on the Google Play Store.

Super Mario Run came out on iOS late 2016 and is available for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch devices that are running iOS 8.0 or later.

Nintendo’s mobile Mario game has been an incredibly popular mobile title on iOS, as the company’s twitter account celebrated the milestone of having 50 million downloads towards the end of last year.

The delayed release on Android was not unexpected, as Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto previously confirmed the Super Mario Run Android release wouldn't be until after 2016.

Miyamoto said putting it on iOS before Android was because of "the stability of the iOS platform."
