Super Bomberman R Receives 'Significant Upgrade'

Patch also aims to reduce lag.

Title Update 1.2 has been released for Super Bomberman R, and with it, a fix for control issues some players have suffered during online battles.

Konami says the problems with controls in an online environment has been “greatly reduced” by a "significant upgrade," and there are plans to release future updates to further improve online controls and enhance the overall online experience.

Also in the update is the ability to select the Room Type when creating a room to host an online free battle. By choosing Room Number, only players with said number can join the game. Think of it as a private match.

The full list of fixes read as:

  • Adjustments have been made to reduce the input latency.
  • Controls are now more precise to reduce the unintentional direction changes.
  • Character speed has been adjusted so players can make quicker and more agile moves.
  • The characters are now behaving more naturally when in front of a pillar or a block.
  • Making a turn while running along a block or a pillar is now easier.
  • A kicked bomb can be stopped more precisely.
  • Fixed a bug that made the game ignore some button inputs when packet loss occurs.
  • The lag felt when planting a bomb has been reduced.
  • Sudden direction changes are easier to make.

In our review of Super Bomberman R we said “Super Bomberman R’s multiplayer versatility and boss-filled story mode are laudable retreads of classic gameplay, but its depth and customizability are disappointing,” before advising “Impressive in some areas and disappointing in others, Bomberman's Switch debut is a bit too pricey to recommend.”
