Star Wars to Likely Continue Far Beyond Episode IX

Episode IX won't likely be the end.

While Disney's original plan was for a trilogy of new Star Wars films, the series will likely continue far beyond Star Wars: Episode IX, company CEO Bob Iger has revealed.

During a USC tech conference today (via Variety), Iger said the creative team is currently looking at "what could be another decade and a half of Star Wars stories."

Iger also discussed how Disney is handling Star Wars: The Last Jedi in the wake of Carrie Fisher's death. "We are not changing [Episode VIII] to deal with her passing. Her performance remains as it was in  [Episode VIII]," he said.

He also reaffirmed that Disney has no plans to digitally create Leia Organa. Fisher's character was originally going to have a prominent role in Episode IX, which was said to be much larger than her appearance in The Last Jedi.

Additionally, Iger shared a few details about next year's Han Solo film, confirming it will chronicle the smuggler's life from age 18 up through 24. He also said the movie will involve the acquisition of "a certain vehicle and meeting a certain Wookie," and that viewers will "also discover how he got his name."
