Applying stickers, skins or any similar type of adhesive to Nintendo Switch will reportedly damage the surface of the Joy-Cons, as well as the console itself.
In a series of posts on Twitter (via Polygon), a company that makes skins for a variety of electronic devices (including game consoles) called dbrand has been prototyping skins for Nintendo's new console and found that "after removing the skin, it was obvious that the coating on the Joy-Cons do not play well with any kind of adhesive."

The company also tested adhesives on multiple Switch units and found "the same holds true for the console."

In a post on reddit, dbrand explained its testing process, saying they purchased 10 retails units and confirmed that "both the Joy-Cons and the console are not compatible with vinyl wraps or any adhesive-backed skin of any kind." As a result, the company is canceling and refunding all the pre-orders they received for Switch skins and cautioned consumers to "not buy a skin for your Nintendo Switch."
Another adhesive manufacturer called Slickwraps, which also makes skins for various electronic devices, was asked on Twitter if they noticed a similar issue, to which they replied: "We're testing over 80 different materials and recording the process."
