Marvel Unleashes 'Weapons of Mutant Destruction'

This Hulk can smash and slash.

Marvel has announced "Weapons of Mutant Destruction," a new comic book crossover that will unite the casts of Weapon X and Totally Awesome Hulk this summer.

The crossover was first teased by Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso last week. According to Comicbook.com, "Weapons of Mutant Destruction" will force Amadeus Cho to team up with the cast of Weapon X (which launches in April and features Old Man Logan, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Domino and Warpath). This combined force of mutant assassins and Hulk will be attempting to prevent the Weapon X program from unleashing a secret project called "Batch H," which appears to be a genetically engineered monster with the strength of Hulk and the adamantium claws of Wolverine.

The crossover is a natural fit, given both the long rivalry between Wolverine and Hulk and the fact that writer Greg Pak is already penning both books. The crossover will begin with a prelude chapter in June's Totally Awesome Hulk #19. From there, the main crossover will kick off in a one-shot special called Weapons of Mutant Destruction #1 (with art by Mahmud Asrar) and unfold in Totally Awesome Hulk #20-22 and Weapon X #5-6 over the course of the summer.

"These are classic characters, they've been around for decades and they're incredibly popular characters among both readers and writers, and so there have been many different incarnations of them and many different versions, and it's always fun to see different versions of these characters come up against each other." Pak told Comicbook.com "In this case, we've got Old Man Logan who's the old Logan from the future coming up against Amadeus Cho, who's the new Hulk, this cocky kid who took the power of the Hulk from Banner with the idea that Amadeus would become the best Hulk there ever was. This power is not a curse to him. It's just almost like an insanely fun toy. Of course, he's got a lot to learn about what it really means to be the Hulk but that gives us a different dynamic now."

This isn't the only major X-Men project Marvel announced this week. We also learned today that writer Charles Soule is crafting a new incarnation of Astonishing X-Men.
