Get Ready for the Splatoon 2 Testfire By Downloading It Today

Ready, aim, splat.

The free Global Testfire demo for Splatoon 2 doesn't start until March 24, but Switch owners can download the demo right now.

Splatoon 2 features new weapons and adds local multiplayer to the ink-splattering competitive shooter. Nintendo also promises the return of "some familiar characters," as well as introducing new ones.

Nintendo first announced the free Splatoon 2 Global Testfire event last month. There are some conditions to the demo; it's not a free-for-all, unfettered experience. The three-day event will have 6 one-hour sessions cycling through 4v4 matches.

Four new weapons will be playable during the Testfire, and remixed versions of the Splat Roller and Splat Charger will also be available.

We had a chance to preview Splatoon 2 at the Nintendo Switch presentation in Tokyo back in January, and definitely feels like an improvement on the original game. However, the improvements felt more like a refinement of Splatoon than the sort of big step you might expect from a full-blown sequel.

Nintendo promises Splatoon 2 will have the same update support that helped propel the original to be one of Nintendo's shining new IPs. The demo can be downloaded from the Nintendo eShop.
