With The Batman delayed, DC and Warner Bros. are now reportedly looking to fill their empty 2018 slot with another DCEU film.
According to Variety's Justin Kroll, the studios are looking to fast-track one of five movies — The Flash, Dark Universe, Suicide Squad 2, Gotham City Sirens, or Green Lantern Corps. Currently, only director James Wan's Aquaman is slated for a 2018 release, with the Jason Momoa-led solo film recently pushed back to December.
The Batman was originally supposed to start production this year, but with Ben Affleck dropping out as director and Matt Reeves taking over, shooting has been delayed till next year. Reeves is still busy putting the final touches on the upcoming War for the Planet of the Apes, and word is the script for The Batman needs a complete overhaul.
The Flash recently lost its director Rick Famuyiwa, with Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) working on a page one rewrite. Director David Ayer recently teased that Black Mask will be the main villain of the Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) spinoff Gotham City Sirens, which was just announced last year. However, not much else is known about the movie.
Green Lantern Corps. is still set to open in theaters sometime in 2020. David Goyer and Justin Rhodes are writing the script, and it'll be a team-up movie featuring Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and is described as being "Lethal Weapon in space." Warner Bros.' "shortlist" to play Jordan includes Ryan Reynolds, Tom Cruise, Community's Joel McHale, Bradley Cooper, Armie Hammer, and Jake Gyllenhaal.
It was recently reported that The Legend of Tarzan Adam Cozad is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to pen Suicide Squad 2. The movie currently doesn't have a director yet, though Mel Gibson has been reported to be Warner Bros.' first choice.
Edge of Tomorrow filmmaker Doug Liman is directing Dark Universe and he spoke with IGN about the long-planned feature film adaptation of DC Comics' Justice League Dark. But, no release date for Dark Universe has been set yet.
The new two upcoming DCEU movies are Wonder Woman, which opens in theaters on June 2, and Justice League, which hits theaters on November 17.
