Who's watching Watchmen?

Writer Damon Lindelof took to Instagram to announce the HBO Watchmen adaptation has begun pre-production.

The image shows the base of a Nite Owl statue sitting on a table in what looks like a writer's room. It's not specific, and no further details are given other than the caption "Day One."

The statue shown of the first Nite Owl is based on the the cover of Watchmen issue 8.

Word of the upcoming HBO Watchmen adaptation first broke back in June. In July, HBO president Casey Bloys told us the new Watchmen series won't be a straight adaptation, and new material could be created for the show.

"He's really thinking about this in amazing ways," Bloys told us of Lindelof's thoughts on the direction of the upcoming series.

Lindelof co-created The Leftovers, the critically acclaimed HBO series that ended its third and final season earlier this year. Lindelof sat down with us to talk about the show, and how he made sure The Leftovers got a proper ending.
