Skybound Entertainment and Universal Pictures are adapting Kill the Minotaur for the big screen, with Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman on board as a producer.
Released in June, the comic series was created by Air scribes Christian Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto. The duo will also co-write the movie adaptation, with David Alpert, Bryan Furst, Sean Furst, and Kirkman producing. Cantamessa's other writing credits include a handful of AAA video games, such as Red Dead Redemption and Ubisoft's The Crew.
Here's a brief overview of Kill the Minotaur, courtesy of Skybound:
"Kill the Minotaur is a modern and fantastical take on the ancient Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Theseus must enter King Minos’s bizarre Labyrinth and defeat the Minotaur, a creature which feeds on human sacrifices, before the monster can escape its prison to threaten the world."
Cantamessa and Pasetto said they intentionally wrote "strong relatable characters and spectacular scenes" into the comic series "so it would read like a blockbuster movie."
Skybound CEO David Alpert and co-presidents of TV & film Sean and Bryan Furst added: "Christian and Chris have ingeniously taken one of the most ancient of horror stories and spun it into a vital sci-fi thriller. We’re excited to work with them on translating this great comic into the electrifying movie it deserves to be."
Skybound also announced earlier this year that Preacher's Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg would write and direct an Invincible movie adaptation for the company. The company also previously announced a partnership with Oxenfree developer Night School Studio to expand that game into other mediums.
