SteamWorld Dig 2 – PlayStation Versions

Release Date: Tuesday, September 26, 2017

  • Downloadable on PS4 or Vita

From our Review of the Nintendo Switch Version: In the cluttered landscape of fictional post-apocalyptic worlds, 2013’s SteamWorld Dig was a breath of fresh air. A steampunk Western, it sends you digging deep into the earth, searching out precious resources to sell in the dusty, one-mechanical horse town above. It’s a glorious a tale of robot cowboys, mutant humans and mysterious technology. SteamWorld Dig 2 is very much the sequel I was hoping for. It has the same core gameplay loop of digging for riches, but leans further into platforming, puzzle solving and RPG elements, while boasting a gorgeously detailed aesthetic.

Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony

Release Date: Tuesday, September 26, 2017

  • See it on Amazon for $47.99 with Prime (PS4), or $31.99 with Prime (Vita)

From our Review: Danganronpa is a series that doesn’t look like much on the surface, but once you start playing, it’s easy to get sucked into the weird character drama and the lengthy, winding twists and turns of their despair-inducing adventures. The newest installment, Danganronpa V3, doesn’t change too much from the previous two: it’s still an anime and pop-art-fueled hybrid of adventure game, murder mystery, and courtroom drama. But sometimes, more of the same is a good thing – especially when it’s done this well.

Transformers: The Last Knight

From our Review: A film primarily about good robots fighting naughty robots has no business being two hours and twenty-eight minutes long. Worse, Transformers: The Last Knight is so convoluted and drawn-out that it feels like double that amount of time has passed.

Arcade Archives: Mario Bros.

Release Date: Wednesday, September 27, 2017

  • Downloadable on Nintendo Switch

Over a decade ago (!), I lamented the fact that Nintendo kept on pushing inferior versions of the arcade classic Mario Bros. onto its fans instead of re-releasing the true, original arcade edition of the design. This week, at long last, they're finally righting that wrong. Arcade Archives: Mario Bros. will kick off a series of new emulations of vintage arcade titles made by the Big N over 30 years ago, and I for one am thrilled!
