Our Selection Of Highlights From OCE Esports This Week

A horde of highlights from the Oceanic esports scene

OHN 15 was on this weekend in Sydney, the last big event for fighting game fans. Blank Esports continues to battle it out in the Overwatch Pacific Championships and the Second Season of the Asian Pacific showdown Zen League kicked off for Counter-Strike Fans.

The Dire Wolves take the World Stage at the LoL Worlds 2017 Play-Ins this weekend, kicking off their campaign against Cloud 9.

FGC - OzHadou Nationals 15

The Aussie Fighting Game Community descended upon Sydney this weekend past as some of the best players from all over came to show off their skills. Competitors battled it out across like five different types of Smash Bros, in Tekken 7, Injustice 2 and Street Fighter V as they pursued glory.

In the Tekken 7 competition, Echo Fox's Saint returned to Australia to force the scene to lift to his level, and by gosh they did. Kiwi player Zarzob knocked the World Champ into the Loser's Brackets in the Pools, sending the South Korean down the hardest road. Meanwhile in the winner's bracket, Japanese player NOBI was showing what a few extra years of access to a game (and a whole stack of talent) can do. When the Grand Finals finally began, Saint had played twice as many games as NOBI — and now he had to beat him in a best of 5 twice in a row. Naturally he did it — but NOBI didn't make it easy. Watch a spectacular play from NOBI below — but know that Saint beat him shortly after.

In the Street Fighter V competition the best highlights came from the players who brought Menat to the tournament. The Egyptian fortune teller and her orbs were bringing all sorts of surprises and encouraging a wide array of cheeky play from competitors. Watch Go1 put together a fantastic combo against runner-up Mago below.

Mago dropped to the Loser's Bracket heading into the Top 8s after that loss to Go1 and found himself battling his way out. His first opponent was the last Aussie left, Somniac, and the battle there was brutal as Dark Sided' veteran did his best to hold on — he couldn't. Eventually Mago would face Moke in the finals, and the two Japanese titans battled it out. The Rashid v Karin match-up was as close as it could be as both players traded rounds, but eventually Mago wasn't able to get the reset he needed — Moke won the tournament.

Overwatch - OPC Season 2

Blank Esports is having a bit of a rough season so far. A few roster changes have made it a little more difficult to find the synergy they had last season, but they're still clearly a top notch team. South Korean organisation Ardeont are having a free run through the OPC so far, but Blank remain in the running thanks to wins where they can get them. They dropped to Hong Kong Attitude this week, but they beat Machi Esports — watch IEATUUP on Tracer below.

CSGO - Zen Esports Network League Season 2

The Zen League competition is back on, because the Counter-Strike action basically never stops! The best teams from around Australia and New Zealand are competing for a spot at the LAN Finals, where they'll face off against finalists from the South East Asian region. So far the Chiefs have had a good start, bouncing out to an early lead against Legacy esports. The other teams — Tainted Minds, Kings, Athletico and Grayhound Gaming — all went one game a piece. Watch TM put together a very sneaky peek against Grayhound below — it worked out well for them as they gathered enough momentum to win the map.
