Star Trek is back on TV! ...sort of. Star Trek: Discovery brings Starfleet back to the small screen with what is essentially a prequel series. Set 10 years before the original Star Trek -- and based in that show’s prime timeline, rather than the new timeline established by the modern films -- Discovery follows First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) of the USS Shenzhou as a war between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon race is brewing.
With the arrival of Discovery on Sunday, September 24, the prime timeline in the Star Trek universe is reopened but beyond the premiere you won't see it on any network. So where can you watch Star Trek: Discovery on a weekly basis? Take a look below for a complete guide on all the ways you can watch and stream the new series.
At this point, only the series premiere of Star Trek: Discovery will air on TV. It premieres Sunday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. on CBS. The network could decide at a later time to add more episodes to their on-air calendar, but that doesn’t appear to be in the cards for now. The best way to guarantee you see all of Discovery is to stream it.
The exclusive streaming home of all things Star Trek: Discovery in the United States and Canada is CBS All Access, the network's streaming platform. New episodes will be released weekly on Sundays. A membership for CBS All Access costs $5.99 a month with commercials, $9.99 without (after a one week free trial). The subscription gives you access to more than just Star Trek Discovery. It also includes more original programming like The Good Fight and Big Brother: Over the Top, plus an archive of older shows -- including previous incarnations of Star Trek. But there’s no denying that Discovery is the flagship show for the new streaming service.
How to Get CBS All Access
How do you watch CBS All Access? Like most streaming services, it’s available on a wide variety of browsers and devices, all of which will let you stream as part of the monthly fee outlined above. You can access CBS All Access through your web browser, or apps on your iPhone, iPad or Android devices. Beyond that, the service can also be used via Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, Google Chromecast or Roku Streaming Stick devices -- all of which connect to your TV through an HDMI port.
