Fired Han Solo Directors to Direct Movie from Martian Author

The directing duo returns to outer space.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will direct Artemis, a film based on an upcoming science fiction novel from The Martian author Andy Weir.

According to Deadline, the directing duo, who were removed from upcoming Han Solo movie, will work with Fox to find a screenwriter to adapt Weir's novel, also titled Artemis, which will be released this November.

Crown, the publisher of Weir's upcoming book, describes Artemis as "an adrenaline-charged crime caper that features smart, detailed world-building based on real science." The story centers around a woman in her twenties named Jazz, who wishes for a life beyond Artemis, the Moon's only city. With massive debts to pay, Jazz can't resist the opportunity of "a life-changing score" and finds herself in the midst of a conspiracy for control of Artemis.

Fox hopes that Artemis can find similar success as the The Martian, which made $630 million at the worldwide box office and earned seven Oscar nominations.

Despite getting the boot from the Han Solo film, Lord and Miller have a proven track record of success heading into Artemis. The duo directed 21 Jump Street and its sequel, as well as Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The LEGO Movie. They also are writing an upcoming animated Spider-Man film.
