CinemaBlend events editor Eric Eisenberg called the movie "phenomenal," saying it's a "visually mind-blowing sci-fi w/ noir roots shining through in a tight, twisty mystery" and the "best of 2017 so far."
Fandango managing editor Erik Davis went so far as to say he believes it's better than the original Blade Runner, calling it a "sci-fi masterpiece; the kind of deep-cut genre film we don't see anymore." He also praised the story and score, and said while Ryan Gosling is "great" in the movie, Ana de Armas "steals the film."
