Marvel's New Runaways Comics Adds Two More Members

They're back on the run.

Update: We've added new teasers for Molly Hayes and Karolina Dean.

It's been a while since the renegade teen heroes known as The Runaways have had a comic to call their own, but that looks about to change. Even as Hulu gears up for its live-action Runaways TV series next year,  the team looks poised to make a return in the comic book realm.

Today Marvel released the first of what we assume will be several teasers drawn by Star-Lord artist Kris Anka and spotlighting individual Runaways members. We'll continue to update this article as more teasers are revealed and more members are added to this new incarnation of the team.

Molly Hayes

Easily one of the most popular Runaways characters, Molly also happens to be the only character who's appeared in every incarnation of the team. She's also a bit younger than her teammates, though occasionally she shows a greater maturity than any of her friends.

Molly is a mutant gifted with super-strength and invulnerability, though using her powers for extended periods usually causes her to grow exhausted and fall asleep. She looks up to the X-Men as role models, though Wolverine isn't exactly her biggest fan.

Karolina Dean

Karolina is one of the more free-spirited members of the Runaways. She also happens to be one of the team's nonhuman members. She's a member of an alien race called the Majesdanians, though she didn't discover her true heritage until she finally removed her the bracelet her parents ordered her to wear at all times.

Karolina has been in a romantic relationship with Skrull refugee Xavin for much of the team's history, though Xavin is currently a prisoner of the Majesdanians after impersonating Karolina. We'll see if Xavin's fate is addressed in this new series.

Chase Stein
GetReadytoRun_Chase

Chase is a Runaway who wears many hats. He pilots the team's home base/getaway vehicle, the Leapfrog. As the son of mad scientists, he's inherited all manner of weird gadgets, including powerful gauntlets called Fistigons. He even has psychic control over his late girlfriend's pet dinosaur, Old Lace.

Outwardly brash and overconfident, at heart Chase is a very kid and loyal friend.

Old Lace is a dinosaur. That much should be pretty obvious. She was genetically engineered to respond to the psychic commands of her owner, Gertrude Yorkes, obeying Gert's every command and sharing in her emotions. When Gert was killed in an earlier volume of Runaways, that psychic bond was transferred to Chase instead.

Nico Minoru

One of the founding members of the Runaways, Nico is also known as Sister Grimm. She's a powerful witch with one major caveat - she can never cast the same spell more than once. That forces her to become increasingly creative and spontaneous with her magic over time.

Nico has also tended to be the guiding force of the Runaways over the years, and she may well emerge as the leader of the team once again.

Marvel has yet to reveal the creative team or release date for the new series, though we assume it'll be a part of the Marvel Legacy relaunch this fall. It's also possible that Anka will be drawing the new series, especially given the fact that he's been teasing a major new Marvel project following his brief stint on The Punisher.

As for who might be writing the new series, that's anyone's guess. Between original writer/co-creator Brian K. Vaughan, Joss Whedon, Terry Moore and Kathryn Immonen, the bar has been set very high with this franchise. Let us know your ideal Runaways creative team in the comments below.
