Shenmue III will not be at this year’s E3.
Writing via the Shenmue III Kickstarter, developer Ys Net explained the month of June will be spent focusing on development, meaning the team won’t be able to make any upcoming events.
“We have also been receiving questions from our backers regarding our plans to participate in upcoming game shows,” says Ys Net. “While our schedule has yet to be finalized, we will be devoting June to game development and as a result, will unfortunately not be participating in any game shows.”
Ys Net goes on to explain the company will continue the tradition of bringing monthly updates via the Kickstarter campaign.
The last time we got to see Shenmue III was in December of last year, when series creator Yu Suzuki released three work-in-progress screenshots. At the time, Suzuki also spoke briefly about how the third entry in the beloved series has taken over his life.
“I have been completely absorbed in development [of] Shenmue III recently," said Suzuki, "and often stay at the studio throughout the night to make it the best game possible. My life has become Shenmue both day and night, and I’m happy.”
If you’re itching to get your hands on Shenmue, it looks like there might just be a HD remaster in the works courtesy of a Sega-registered domain name.
