GTA Publisher Acquires Space Sim Kerbal Space Program

KSP has sold over 2 million copies to date.

Rockstar and 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive has acquired Kerbal Space Program.

Independent developer Squad, which created and previously owned the Kerbal Space Program IP, will continue working on future updates and this year's forthcoming expansion, Making History, according to the announcement. The expansion will add a mission builder and the History Pack — the latter sees players go on Kerbal Space Program versions of historical space missions.

In a statement, Take-Two SVP, Head of Corporate Development and Independent Publishing Michael Worosz called Kerbal Space Program a "new, long-term franchise" for the publisher.

The development team also chimed in on the announcement, assuring fans the acquisition "doesn't change much for the KSP community." It added, "Squad and the current development team is still here and we’re hard at work on KSP and its future updates, but now we are fortunate enough to do so with the help of an experienced publisher like Take-Two...."

The physics-based space sim is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. To date, it's sold over 2 million copies.

IGN's Kerbal Space Program review said its "cute, clueless characters and sense of humor turn a hardcore physics simulator into something replayable and addictive, and well worth getting over the hurdle of learning the controls."
