23 TV Shows That Originally Were Movies

From Rush Hour to Westworld.

In a TV landscape loaded with reboots, reimagines and adaptations of old shows, there's another piece of nostalgia at play: movies. The small screen is filling up with takes on popular movie franchises, to varying degrees of success.

From Westworld to Scream to even The Girlfriend Experience, the cinema has plenty of stories dying to be told in a longer format than a two-hour movie can handle. In fact, for some, they thrive in the televised setting. While as a movie Parenthood was a fun comedy starring Steve Martin, NBC's adaptation became of TV's most beloved series as the family is created warmed the hearts of anyone who tuned in.

As you look for a show to binge over the something or for your new TV obsession, don't forget those adapted from movies and let IGN be your guide in looking at 23 modern series that took their inspiration from the big screen.

The film-to-TV concepts aren't always a success, though. For every Lethal Weapon, there's a Rush Hour or Bad Teacher -- shows that failed to capture what made the movies special in the first place. After all, while an adaptation could be funny, action-packed, incredibly dramatic or somewhere in between, it has to at least attempt to evoke the same feelings that those sitting in theaters had.

It's not an easy task to take on but so many shows have been able to manage it, with some even surpassing what the movies offered -- here's looking at you, Friday Night Lights.
