Magikarp Jump: How to Fish and Retire Your Magikarp

Upon first starting Magikarp Jump, Mayor Karp will help you get your companion. In order to fish or get a new Magikarp, you'll need to completely max level your current Magikarp or get rid of it by other means.

Below is a guide on how to retire and how to fish for Magikarp.

The most likely way you'll get rid of your Magikarp is by getting it to its max level. Once that's achieved, you're forced to compete in your current League until the Magikarp loses.

Once it loses (or wins the whole league), the Magikarp is forced to retire. You'll see its competitive stats, then it lives in your pond. You can tap on the Magikarp in the background to see its generation and max JP. 

After a Magikarp is retired be sure to check your Achievements in the Menu to see if you earned a reward. With your Magikarp retired you'll be able to fish for a new one.

There are unpleasant ways to force your Magikarp to retire, though it's not something you can make happen on your own. Certain random encounter events will give you the choice to do something risk with your Magikarp. You can also force your Magikarp to retire by jumping out of your pond and getting captured by pidgeotto.

In Out of Nowhere and All That Glitters, you have a chance to get extra JP or diamonds. But your Magikarp can also be taken, or retired. We don't recommend trying this if you have a high-level Magikarp. 

Another way to retire your Magikarp, is by evolving your Magikarp into a Gyarados. This can be done by tapping on your Magikarp until its Everstone breaks, which can be done in less than a minute. After that, level up your Magikarp until it reaches level 20 and it'll evolve. Doing this completes event 34 and the mayor will take your Gyarados away.

Note: Golden Magikarp will evolve into a red Gyarados.

With your old Magikarp retired, you'll return to Roddy Tackle and he'll have you choose an old rod. Your character takes it and fishes for a random Magikarp. If you don't like the Magikarp you found, you can pay Diamonds to fish again. 

If your previous Magikarp retired in a pleasant way, your new Magikarp and old Magikarp have a pleasant interaction.
