Brace yourselves: E3 2016 is nearly upon us. From June 12-16, the entire gaming industry will converge on Los Angeles to showcase the biggest games that we’ll be playing for 2016 and beyond. We’ve been updating our Games of E3 List whenever news drops, but now we’re going to go even deeper. Every day leading up to the show, we’re going to highlight one of the biggest games that we hope to see more of at E3. Up today: Battlefield 1!
We’ve only seen Battlefield 1 once, during the recent announcement on May 6 when the trailer was revealed.
In a time when nearly every other shooter is reaching further and further into the future, filling our screens with robots and laser beams, it’s exciting to see the Battlefield series take a different tack. Going all the way back to World War 1 means we’ll potentially see a very different style of warfare from what Battlefield (or its chief rival series, Call of Duty) has ever offered before.
Trenches, horses, biplanes, primitive tanks, gas masks, and even zeppelins all make an appearance in the “in-engine” footage from the trailer (not to be confused with in-game footage). If developer Dice can figure out a way to make all of those things work together, this game has a real shot at breaking the genre out of a rut.
100%. EA has confirmed Battlefield 1 will be playable at its EA Live event (which is not technically at E3, but right next door). So if you show up and get in line, you might get to play it ahead of release.
