Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console for the month of April in the United States, according to the NPD Group.
Nintendo reportedly sold over 280,000 Switch units during April, making it the second consecutive month that Switch has been the top-selling console. Following its launch on March 3, Nintendo Switch sold 906,000 in its first 28 days in North America.
Combining April sales of Switch and Nintendo's ever-growing family of 3DS systems, the latter of which sold over 68,000 units, Nintendo hardware made up nearly half of all video game console sales this past month.
Nintendo also enjoyed success on the software front, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe topping the charts as April's best-selling video game in the United States. Over 460,000 physical copies of the recently released kart racer were sold last month, and, combined with digital sales, makes for a total of more than 550,000 units.
It's worth noting that this only accounts for two days of sales, as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe released on April 28 and the the sales reporting period for the month ended on April 29. Read IGN's Mario Kart 8 Deluxe review for our thoughts on what is "the best entry in the series so far."
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild continues to be a strong seller for Nintendo as well, as the open-world adventure was April's third best-selling game.
Nintendo recently outlined its plans for E3 2017, which will feature a Nintendo Spotlight event that highlights Super Mario Odyssey and other upcoming Switch games. Additionally, members from the Treehouse will showcase upcoming 3DS and Switch games live during the expo, and tournaments for Splatoon 2 and Arms will take place on June 13 and 14.
