Why Minecraft Is 720p on Nintendo Switch

Not due to a lack of power.

The Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft runs at a resolution of 720p in both handheld and docked modes, and Microsoft has come forward to explain why.

According to TIME,  Microsoft confirmed the Switch version's lack of 1080p support, even when docked, isn't because the system isn't powerful enough to handle it, but rather due to issues with the shift between resolutions when switching from docked to undocked mode.

While Microsoft has yet to confirm whether or not 1080p support will ever be available for the Switch version, TIME notes that it's possible the game could feature a resolution boost when playing in docked mode at some point in the future.

Minecraft released for Nintendo Switch last week on May 11 digitally. A physical version of the title will be available at some point in the future for Switch owners.

The Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft features the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, which was previously released for the Wii U version. Check out IGN's interview with Damon Baker for more on the pack, which includes Mario-themed skins, textures, music and more.
