The Flash: Zemeckis, Vaughn, Raimi Up to Direct

No deal has been made yet with either of the three filmmakers.

Robert Zemeckis, Matthew Vaughn, and Sam Raimi are reportedly the top choices to direct the solo Flash movie.

Variety reports Zemeckis and Vaughn are in a shortlist of directors for Warner Bros., but a deal for either of the two leading candidates has not been made yet. There are reportedly scheduling conflicts stopping Zemeckis and Vaughn from fully committing to the project.

Vaughn is already cooking up a concept for a third Kingsman movie, while Zemeckis' next film, an untitled Universal movie starring Steve Carell, will begin production this August. It's reported that Warner Bros. wants to start development on The Flash as soon as this year.

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is also on Warner Bros.' shortlist and, like Zemeckis and Vaughn, met with the studio in recent weeks, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Unlike the other two choices, Raimi doesn't seem to have any scheduling conflicts. The last movie the filmmaker directed was 2013's Oz the Great and Powerful.

Warner Bros. has no comment on the news.

Last year, The Flash lost its second director in Rick Famuyiwa, who left the project due to 'creative differences'. Warner Bros. then brought on Joby Harold to do a "page-one rewrite." While The Flash has no release date, you can watch Ezra Miller portray the DC superhero in Justice League, which hits theaters on November 17.
