The popular action-platformer Risk of Rain is getting a sequel, titled Risk of Rain 2.
Developer Hopoo Games took to their Tumblr page today to make the announcement, saying that while the game has been in development for about six months, they just couldn't keep their lips sealed any longer.
Fans of the original game will immediately notice one major change: Risk of Rain 2 has made the jump from 2D to 3D. "We think that 3D allows for much deeper design spaces and more possibilities for cool gameplay. Feelings of scale and atmosphere are much stronger," Hopoo Games said. "We are really happy with the core of Risk of Rain - and we're finding it plays even better in 3D."
Besides the switch to 3D, the game appears to closely follow in the footsteps of the original, featuring the same fast-paced bullet hell combat and spacesuit-clad main character.
No release window has yet been set for Risk of Rain 2. Hopoo stressed the game is still in "very early" development, but the studio plans to post frequent updates on their Tumblr for anyone interested in following the sequel's progress.
