Writer Kieron Gillen | Artist Marco Checchetto (Marvel Comics)
There’s a new five-part Star Wars crossover event on the way, this time featuring a team-up between Luke Skywalker and breakout character Doctor Aphra (from the concluded Darth Vader series and now star of her own ongoing comic). With a title like “Screaming Citadel,” it’s easy to imagine how this will deliver on the premise of being a sci-fi horror story where the reluctant partners must enter the cursed castle and confront those who lurk inside. We’re intrigued to see what out-there thrills Kieron Gillen’s famously twisted mind will come up with and how artist Marco Checchetto, now a mainstay of Marvel’s Star Wars line, will bring it to life.
Writers Dan Abnett, Ben Percy, Christopher Priest | Artists Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund | Cover Artist Mike McKone (DC Comics)
DC is rolling out their own crossover event with “The Lazarus Contract,” a title that harkens back to the popular, infamous story “The Judas Contract,” which just happens to have an animated adaption out now. This time, Deathstroke is out to resurrect his son and he’ll have to tear through the Titans in a four-part story that runs through Deathstroke, Titans, and Teen Titans.
Writer Lee Allred | Artist Michael and Laura Allred (Young Animal/DC Comics)
With Bug: The Adventures of Forager, Young Animal continues to make good on its promise to be the place where DC’s weirder ideas can thrive under the watch of creative maestro Gerard Way. And with the uber-talented Allred family working on this puppy, it’s practically a given it will be a real treat.
An oddball character to begin with, Bug will be reintroduced when he wakes up in a strange place and must go on an adventure involving a ghostly girl, a talking teddy bear, and the evil General Electric (ha!). Most intriguing, Bug will be after a rare metal, and while that may seem innocuous at first, DC’s Batman event titled Dark Nights: Metal is on the way, so we’re expecting to see some connective tissue to that story.
Writer Steve Orlando | Artist Brian Ching (DC Comics)
Writer Steve Orlando has put the Girl of Steel through some intense challenges while still keeping her optimism and heroic ideals at the forefront, making this one of DC's most refreshing and fun Rebirth books. Now he traps her in the Phantom Zone with fellow hero Batgirl where they have to deal with not only the Phantom King but the Emerald Empress as well. We’re excited to see these two iconic characters team up not just to see how Orlando handles the pair under his pen, but to see how they work off one another again given how much they’ve both changed in recent years.
Keep reading for a new horror book, Batman and more!
