The Nintendo Switch's latest 4.0.0 update came with surprise functionality not listed in Nintendo's official notes — the ability to use wireless headphones.
As originally spotted by NintendoLife, wireless headphones using a USB dongle are now natively supported by the Switch, meaning users no longer have to be tethered to the system. The Switch's dock has standard USB ports to attach a dongle to, but for use in handheld mode, Switch owners will need a USB-to-USB-C adapter for wireless headphone support.
For Switch owners looking for a new pair of headphones, IGN took a look earlier this year at the best gaming headsets available. The Switch still does not natively support Bluetooth headphones, however.
The 4.0.0 update also adds a few major features to the Switch not previously available. Users can now record 30-second video clips from a select number of games, while game save and account data can be transferred from one Switch to another.
Aside from the update, Nintendo also revealed that the Switch has continued to dominate the sales charts as the No. 1-selling console in the United States in September. Switch exclusives Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were also among the month's top 10 best-selling games.
Looking forward at the Switch's software lineup, Nintendo is reportedly encouraging more mature titles on its latest console. This report falls in line with the company's efforts to fix its third-party problem with Switch. In fact, Rockstar is bringing L.A. Noire to Switch, and Bethesda is not only releasing Skyrim, but also Doom and Wolfenstein 2 on Switch.
