Nintendo Aiming for 2 to 3 New Smartphone Apps Annually

Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp arrives next month.

Nintendo plans on continuing to create new smartphone apps, adding two to three each year.

Company president Tatsumi Kimishima discussed Nintendo's app approach during a six-month financial briefing for fiscal 2018. On top of new games, he said, "we will continue services for applications that have already been released."

He highlighted, for example, Super Mario Run getting version 3.0 in September. Kimishima stated the update has increased user engagement for the game, which has surpassed 200 million downloads.

Looking ahead, Nintendo will release Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp next month.
