Metro: Last Light Sequel Announced

The third Metro title has officially been revealed.

The latest entry in the Metro franchise, Metro 3, has officially been announced during Microsoft's E3 2017 press conference.

The moody demo, showcased on the Xbox One X, opened with a Dostoevsky quote, and quickly transitioned into a first-person battle with a pack of wolf-like ghoul in a dark tunnel. The character then emerged into a landscape featuring a derelict town, exploring the abandoned landscape with a crossbow in hand.

A website listing suggested the third Metro game would be coming in 2017. Publisher Deep Silver confirmed at the time, however, that there were no plans to continue the franchise with a new release this calendar year. Metro franchise developer 4A Games previously teased the studio's newest project last year with a series of images.

An adaptation of the Metro 2033 series from Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky, 4A Games first delivered Metro 2033 in 2010, which IGN gave a 6.9 in our review at the time. IGN then gave the sequel, Metro: Last Light, a 7.7, calling it "a bold post-apocalyptic FPS adventure uniquely told from the Russian point of view."

Both games were then combined into the Metro: Redux collection, for which IGN said in our review that having "both in a single, enhanced package is a great way to discover (or rediscover) the Moscow Metro's unconventional charms."
