The largest update yet for ARK: Survival Evolved arrives today with the Scorched Earth expansion pack.
The Scorched Earth pack is now available on Steam Early Access and Xbox One's Game Preview. The expansion adds a desert area, complete with new creatures, tools, weapons, and more. It costs $19.99 on both platforms. Meanwhile, the base game is discounted 40% this week.
The desert element adds a new layer of survival, as you begin naked and dehydrated and need to quickly find water and build a shelter. It includes 50 new crafting items, new creatures like the Wyvern and Death Worm, and hazards like heat stroke and sandstorms. If you manage to survive all that, you can take your newfound tools back to the main game's island with you.
Accompanying the expansion is a new update that brings fishing and two new creatures, Pelagornis and Allosaurus.
“All of us at Wildcard are tremendously excited to see how these new features alter the dynamics of the long-term ARK 'metagame,'" Studio Wildcard lead designer and co-founder Jeremy Stieglitz said in a statement accompanying the launch. “While we’ve had Scorched Earth and future ARKs in the planning stages since the project’s inception, establishing its inter-ARK travel technology was the essential reason for making this content available to players right now."
The standalone ARK: Survival of the Fittest was recently brought back to be part of the main Ark game.
