SteamWorld Dig 2 Announced for Nintendo Switch

Image & Form hit a rich vein.

Image & Form Games has announced SteamWorld Dig 2 for Nintendo Switch, due for release this summer.

Announced as part of Nintendo’s Nindies broadcast today, the game is a follow-up to 2013’s fantastic SteamWorld Dig, and is set in the same universe as 2D tactical shooter, SteamWorld Heist.

Watch the announcement trailer below:

Featuring Dorothy, a character from the original game, Dig 2 will expand the scope of the original, keeping the same ‘Metroidvania’ action-adventure structure, but expanding it across multiple new locations, and adopting a non-linear structure.

Currently, Dig 2 is only scheduled for Switch, but Image and Form say other platforms are “to be announced”. In the case of Dig and Heist, each game arrived first on Nintendo 3DS, with versions for PC and other consoles arriving over the months following release.

In terms of the Switch version, Image & Form CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson says that it will make use of its more unique functions, pointing out that the game will utilise the Joy-Con controllers’ HD Rumble function in some way.

We'll have an exclusive hands-on, plus a world first gameplay demo for you later today.
