After receiving complaints from players in Japan, Square Enix has announced it will update the name of a trash item that can be found when fishing in Nier: Automata.
As reported by Siliconera, the item is called "NIN64" and described as "trash that was fished up." Whether or not it was an intentional joke about Nintendo 64 or something else entirely (others have suggested it may instead be a nod to the 1950s anti-aircraft system, the MIM-46 Mauler, or "MIM46") fans have made their complaints known and requested the item's name be changed.

Producer Yosuke Saito took to Twitter to address the backlash, assuring upset fans the next patch will not only fix a few bugs, but also "change the name of an item you've all pointed out."
While Nier: Automata is already out in Japan, the game is not yet available to those in the west. The action-RPG from developer PlatinumGames will release for PS4 on March 7 in North America and March 10 in Europe. A PC version is also in the works and will launch sometime later this year.
