Rumor: PUBG's Xbox Exclusivity Could be Extended

We learned yesterday that PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds developer Bluehole is in talks with Sony about a PS4 release for its game - but the Korean company may be keeping its options open by also talking to Microsoft about extending the game's Xbox exclusivity.

According to Bloomberg sources, Bluehole is "likely" to offer Microsoft a longer console exclusivity period, with that period lasting "until the middle of next year or longer". Microsoft has refused to comment on the issue.

Bluehole CEO Chang Byung-gyu yesterday explained that he "has had talks with all of the major console companies" about Battlegrounds' future releases.

Whatever happens, Battlegrounds will be launching first for console on Xbox One later this year - whether or not that will be as an Xbox Preview game, or alongside the game's delayed final version is still to be announced.

We were impressed by the quality of the Xbox One version when we played it as Gamescom.

Bluehole's clearly putting serious thought into how to approach the future of its most valuable game, even setting up a subsidiary, PUBG Corp. to focus entirely on its development and growth.

That seems to include dealing with copycats, with the company "contemplating further action" against Epic's startlingly similar Fortnite Battle Royale mode.
