Fast food chain McDonald's has left Rick and Morty fans upset after running out of Szechuan dipping sauce during its one-day promotion.
The promotion, which brought back the out-of-production sauce that was recently referenced in Rick and Morty's third season, was announced early this month and would see select locations offer a limited run of the sauce.
According to The Guardian, McDonald's locations quickly ran out of the Szechuan sauce, angering fans to the point where, in at least one location, police were called to the scene after people began chanting: "we want sauce."
Some fans reportedly waited for hours only to be told that the restaurant only ever had 20 packets of sauce allocated, while at some locations, McDonald's staff didn't seem to even know about the promotion.
McDonald's has since released an apology on Twitter, saying, "The best fans in the multiverse showed us what they got today. We hear you and we're sorry not everyone could get some super-limited Szechuan."
Rick and Morty's popularity is only on the rise with Season 3 breaking viewership records for Adult Swim, even though episodes are no longer available for free streaming.
