Justice League's New Trailer: Darkseid, Hints, and Other Hidden Details

"Something...darker."

New York Comic-Con gave us a few exciting gifts, perhaps most notably a brand-new trailer for Justice League, November's upcoming DC team-up flick that was telegraphed in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. We went frame-by-frame and picked out all of the hints, secrets, and other hidden details we could find.

0:17 - We open with Amy Adams’ Lois Lane in Smallville on the Kent farm, looking out at Henry Cavill’s Clark in a corn field. He’s back! Maybe...

0:39 - The engagement ring Clark is referring to calls back to the Batman vs Superman scene in Clark’s childhood bedroom.

0:42 - Here we flashback to Superman’s burial at the end of Batman vs Superman.

0:48 - But alas. It was all just a dream. Superman’s still dead, at least for now.

0:58 - A look at London, as the world is still mourning Superman.

1:00 - Daily Planet. The skyline at the top of the paper reads, “Metropolis continues the fight against...and then the rest is illegible, unfortunately.

1:05 - The airborne Parademons, who appear to be the primary bad guys in Justice League, vs. ancient humans -- the Amazons.

1:08 - It looks like they're turning a soldier into a parademon. This could hint at why they want to come to earth -- and that is to grow their army.

1:14 - I’m not 100% sure what that burning symbol in the ground is. It doesn’t look like Darkseid’s Omega symbol though. If you have any ideas, post them in the comments below!

1:17 - Who’s the little girl? Is she a character of significance or is she a random citizen like Joffrey was in Batman Begins. It looks like she lives in a fairly awful place before the Parademons even get there. And are those Parademons diving into a nuclear reactor… Wild guess: Did Darkseid cause the Chernobyl disaster? It might be a more modern point in history that his forces visited us compared to the Amazons fighting them.

1:22 - “Something darker” - that may be a clear reference to Darkseid...from, of all people, the Dark Knight.

1:27 - Here’s a good look at J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon as he throws up the Bat-Signal.

1:29 - Batman and his Batwing. Not quite the literal Batman symbol it was in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman, but pretty cool nevertheless.

1:35 - A look at Cyborg in his home watching footage, surrounded by reminders of when he was just Victor Stone. The sports trophies, the photos, and, you know, a book about whales.

1:49-1:51 - Who is Aquaman fighting? Given the dialogue playing over this about being divided, could he be brawling with Batman?

1:54 - Wonder Woman taking on Steppenwolf here as Parademons look on. We’ve also learned, by the way, that Steppenwolf is Darkseid’s uncle.

1:58 - Bruce in the Batcave looking at a hologram of Superman.

2:41 - After a cool fighting montage we close with this hilarious scene of Barry Allen talking about Bruce’s secret identity a bit too loudly. And notice the Ace Chemicals building in the background there -- a reference in and of itself, but also sets this scene in Gotham rather than Metropolis.

Justice League is almost here, but we’re just getting started. Don’t miss the full trailer again now that you know what to look for, and catch the first two trailers as well!
