Universal has postponed production on the Bride of Frankenstein and removed the film's February 14, 2019 release date from its schedule.
Deadline reports the movie was in pre-production with filming set to start in London this February. However, both Universal and director Bill Condon have decided to delay any further work on the movie so Condon and David Koepp have more time to polish the script.
Condon and Koepp are reportedly trying to rework the story and vision for the remake of the 1935 horror classic. Bride of Frankenstein is part of the Universal Monsters shared universe, which kicked off earlier this summer with the Tom Cruise-led The Mummy.
"After thoughtful consideration, Universal Pictures and director Bill Condon have decided to postpone Bride of Frankenstein," Universal said in a statement. "None of us want to move too quickly to meet a release date when we know this special movie needs more time to come together."
Javier Bardem is attached to star as Frankenstein’s monster with Angelina Jolie in talks to play the title character. However, according to Deadline, Jolie is waiting for Koepp's and Condon's rewrites before fully committing to the project.
Condon recently spoke to Forbes about Bride of Frankenstein earlier this week, discussing his vision for the movie, the start of production, and the sets the crew was building for the film.
