Get Ready for 'Justice League vs. Suicide Squad'

The DCU isn't big enough for the two of them.

DC's next major event comic will pair two of its biggest franchises. Justice League vs. Suicide Squad will pit the two teams against each other as Batman tries to bring down Amanda Waller's crew once and for all.

As revealed by The Wall Street Journal, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad is a six-issue mini-series that will ship in December 2016 and January 2017. The series will be written by Joshua Williamson (The Flash) and drawn by Jason Fabok (Justice League).

According to Williamson, the conflict between these two teams arises as Batman questions whether the world needs a group like Task Force X when it already has the Justice League to defend it. Naturally, Waller disagrees. But like with so many superhero battles, it'll only be a matter of time before the two teams have to put aside their differences to confront a common foe. And while the series will spotlight all the major characters from both teams, Williamson revealed that the story will hinge on Task Force X's newest recruit, Killer Frost. “We’re going to be doing a lot with her and her point of view in the event," Williamson told WSJ.

As with any major event comic, there will be tie-ins that expand on the main conflict. Justice League #12 and 13 and Suicide Squad #9 and 10 will all tie into the larger event in January. The Wall Street Journal also revealed that a new ongoing Justice League of America series (which was teased as part of the original DC Rebirth announcement) will spin directly out of the events of this crossover.

Interestingly, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad is said to be the first example of DC's new quarterly approach to event comics. That means readers can look forward to another big crossover in or around April 2017.
