The Witcher Netflix Series: Pilot Episode Script Is Finished

The first episode is out there somewhere.

Netflix's The Witcher series has a completed pilot script.

Showrunner Lauren S. Hissich submitted a first full draft (apparently after many, many iterations) on February 23rd, but won't be drawn on the plot.

We already know that the series will be based more on the Witcher novels rather than the games (developer CD Projekt Red isn't directly involved in the show, although the games' cinematic director will direct at least one episode), and the pilot script makes clear again that it's drawing on Andrzej Sapkowski's books.

Hissrich has clearly been doing her research ahead of writing. Over the last week, she's compiled a list of Witcher characters and their characteristics in a Twitter thread.

While some have taken this as confirmation of the cast, Hissrich has made no mention that this is anything more than research from the books and games - but it's well worth reading to get a flavour of her thinking on the characters we could end up seeing on our screens (click the tweet to open the thread):

Hissrich was appointed showrunner last year, having previously worked on Netflix's The Defenders and Daredevil series.

We still don't have a filming date, release date or cast for the series - but we've got a few ideas about who could play Geralt.

Joe Skrebels is IGN's UK News Editor, and he still wants to play a Grave Hag. Follow him on Twitter.
