Though Visceral Games' Star Wars project will live on in a different form, the linear, story-focused version of the game was beautiful, "fun and funny," the game's co-writer said.
Todd Stashwick, who was co-writing the linear, story-focused game with Amy Hennig at Visceral, publicly commented on what could have been following EA's announcement that Visceral would close and its Star Wars game would be refocused.
"For the record, it was beautiful, amazing, fun and funny," Stashwick said in a tweet. "The ride for me was singular. Talented, passionate, folks, making something great."
Stashwick, an actor also known for his work on Syfy's 12 Monkeys, boarded the project in 2014 after previously working with Hennig on her iteration of Uncharted 4 before she left Naughty Dog. Stashwick voiced a then-unnamed character in the game's initial teaser trailer.
Currently, Hennig's involvement in the reshaped project is unknown, with EA telling IGN this week that the company is "in discussions" with her about her next move.
EA announced this week that Visceral's action-adventure Star Wars game will now be led by EA Vancouver and a host of other EA studios worldwide. The new development team will change the game's focus "to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency," rather than the Uncharted-like adventure Hennig, Stashwick, and the Visceral team were reportedly developing.
As for whether any of that team's work will remain as part of the new direction for the game, EA told IGN "We will be continuing to use a great deal of the work that has been done to date – the assets of the game that has already been built will be the foundation of this new game."
EA originally planned to release Visceral's Star Was game in 2019, but with the shift in development, the company currently has no announced release window for the project.
