Venom Movie: Jenny Slate Joins the Cast

The film opens in theaters on October 5, 2018.

Negotiations are taking place for Jenny Slate to join the cast for Sony's Venom movie.

According to Variety, sources say the actress is currently in talks to play a scientist in the upcoming film, and would join Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Riz Ahmed and Manchester by the Sea's Oscar nominee Michelle Williams, who both said to be on board for unrevealed roles.

Slate has a variety of work behind her including roles in dramas such as Gifted and comedies like Obvious Child.

While Sony has no comment on casting at this time, we know Tom Hardy will star as Venom's alter-ego Eddie Brock, and Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer is set to direct.

Venom is one of two Spider-Man spinoffs in the works, alongside the Black Cat and Silver Sable film Silver & Black, which will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythwood. Each film is said to feature its own distinct tone with Venom feeling more like a horror film.
