Writer Jason Aaron | Artists Walter Simonson, Olivier Coipel, Chris Burnham, James Harren, Russell Dauterman | Cover Artist Russell Dauterman (Marvel Comics)
This is it, folks, the end of the line for Jane Foster, in more ways than one. The Mighty Thor #700 is Part One of “The Death of the Mighty Thor” storyline where Jane’s cancer takes a turn for the worst and the all-powerful villain Mangog descends on Asgard. With Marvel Comics heavily promoting the return of characters returning to their classic iteration, not to mention the release of the Thor: Ragnarok movie just around the corner, Thor Odinson is poised to make his return to worthiness and re-take Mjolnir. Jane’s tenure as Thor has made for Marvel’s best comic book series the past few years, so this is a storyline we are both eager to see unfold and dreading to witness the end of.
Also, because this is such a huge landmark for Thor (hence the oversized issue and six dollar price tag), a superstar lineup of artists are joining in with regular series artist Russell Dauterman, including Oliver Coipel, Chris Burnham, James Harren, and the legendary Walt Simonson.
Writer Ed Brisson | Artist Jon Malin (Marvel Comics)
Cable returns to its legacy numbering this week and welcomes a new creative team, Ed Brisson and Jon Malin, that has us absolutely giddy. They’re starting off with a riff on Cable’s classic team with “The Newer Mutants” storyline, featuring a delightfully odd cast of characters including Armor, Shatterstar, Blink, X-23, Longshot, and our almighty jellybean lord, Doop. This is precisely the kind of comic we want from Marvel Legacy, one that embraces the past and adds a fresh spin that launches us into the future.
Writer Greg Pak | Artist Greg Land (Marvel Comics)
One of the (many) mysteries of Marvel Legacy #1 was a distress signal calling Hulk back to Sakaar, and now Amadeus Cho will be heading off to investigate. This excites us not only because it will see the positively-minded Cho face one of the original Hulk’s greatest challenges on the harsh and unforgiving warrior world, but it’s Greg Pak essentially doing a sequel to his Planet Hulk run, one of the best Hulk stories ever told.
Keep reading for Superman, Green Lanterns and more.
