The Justice League and Doom Patrol Join Forces

Fear the wrath of Milkman Man!

DC Comics is gearing up for the first major crossover between the Justice League and the revamped Doom Patrol in early 2018. Yesterday at NYCC we learned more about "Milk Wars," the weekly crossover that brings these two teams together.

"Milk Wars" is a weekly crossover that begins in January 2018. The story revolves around the debut of a new, Frank Quitely-designed villain called Milkman Man. The villain is being compared to the Anti-Monitor from Crisis on Infinite Earths, as his goal is to "homogenize" the DCU and remove all traces of strangeness. Naturally, that doesn't sit well with the quirky heroes of Doom Patrol.

The crossover begins in the pages of Justice League/Doom Patrol Special #1 (by writers Gerard Way and Steve Orlando and artist ACO) and continues in Shade, the Changing Girl/Wonder Woman Special #1 (by writer Cecil Castallucci and and artist Mirka Andolfo), Mother Panic/Batman Special #1 (by writer Jody Houser and artist Ty Templeton), Cave Carson/Swamp thing Special #1 (by writer Jon Rivera and artist Langdon Foss) and concluding in Doom Patrol/Justice League Special #1.

DC will also be adding a new miniseries to the Young Animal lineup in the aftermath of this crossover. Writer Mags Visaggio (Kim & Kim) and artist Sonny Liew (Doctor Fate) are working on Eternity Girl, about a depressed former heroine called back into action after the return of her arch-nemesis. Eternity Girl will debut during the course of the Milk Wars crossover before spinning out into her own series.

DC also shed more light on their immediate plans for the Vertigo imprint. While Co-Publisher Jim Lee previously revealed plans for an ambitious Vertigo relaunch in August 2018, DC will continue to debut new Vertigo titles in the meantime. Tim Seeley (Nightwing) and Stephen Molnar (Danger Girl) are working on a miniseries called Imaginary Friends. This horror series is influenced by the infamous Slender Man case and features a group of children with dangerously overactive imaginations.

Also announced at the panel was Motherlands, by Si Spurrier (X-Men Legacy) and Rachel Stott (Star Trek/Planet of the Apes). This series focuses on an emotionally fragile woman and her overbearing mother who work together as international bounty hunters. The series will debut in January 2018.

Finally, DC revealed Deathbed, from Joshua Willamson (The Flash) and Riley Rossmo (Batman/The Shadow). This series will focus on a Howard Hughes-esque playboy who emerges after two decades of hiding to chronicle his life story. The series will debut in February 2018.
