Great variety in our games highlights this week as we take a look at the Quake Champions qualifiers for DreamHack Winter, the end of OCE RLCS Season 4, and the ZEN League Season 2 Finals qualifiers came to a close. PAX Australia is next weekend, and there's going to be heaps of esports at the event - if you're heading down be sure to check out the competitions.
Make sure you check out the rest of the esports hub, as well! Remember you can email tips to me esportsau@ign.com or you can just click to send me an email. If you want, you can tweet suggestions at me as well, my twitter is down the bottom of this article.
Quake Champions - DreamHack Winter ANZ Qualifiers
After a great effort at the Quake World Championships this year, it seems the Aussie scene has earned itself a spot at the Quake Champions table. Two slots were up for grabs as part of the DreamHack Winter Qualifiers, and JAM Gaming's Astroboy snagged the top spot alongside Corvidae's Steej. The tournament wasn't without drama, as a decent amount of server lag plagued some players. Corvidae's other fragger, FraZe, struggled mightily with warping — although he still managed to battle his way through to the Loser's finals (against teammate Steej). Watch him clutch out the kill on Steej below, fighting through lag to nail a beautiful railgun shot.
Rocket League - RLCS OCE Season 4
The Oceanic portion of the 4th season of the RLCS has concluded, and despite some optimistic calculations on my part last week the top four shook out the way most expected. Scylla won both of their games this week, taking out the Chiefs in a nailbiter to secure their spot in the Finals at PAX Aus next week. So the PAX Aus finals will see Scylla, JAM Gaming, Pale Horse and the Chiefs go head-to-head, and it should be gripping stuff — all teams will head into the finals with five wins and two losses. Watch a beautiful piece of defense from both the Chiefs and Scylla as the underdogs clawed their way back into their close match-up below.
CSGO - ZEN League Season 2 Finals Qualifiers
The APAC spanning Zen League closed out its Aussie season this week as teams battled for a spot at the LAN finals. The Kings locked in their trip to LAN early, so it was down to Tainted Minds, Athletico and Grayhound Gaming. Tainted Minds finished the season in second, so Grayhound and Athletico collided first — but Grayhound prevailed. TM vs GG was a bit closer, as both teams traded maps, but eventually Grayhound came out on top again — they'll be competing against MVP PK and Kings come the November 17 showdown. Watch Gratisfaction recover from a huge whiff to win a clutch 2v1 below.
