Rick and Morty: McDonald's to Revive Szechuan Sauce

Rick and Morty's third season finale aired this week.

RIck won't have to wait nine seasons. In honor of Rick and Morty, McDonald's is bringing back its Szechuan Sauce for a limited time.

As a celebration of its new buttermilk crispy chicken tenders, McDonald's will offer "a one-time only, limited-edition run of Szechuan Sauce" at select locations on October 7. You can find out which restaurants are offering Szechuan Sauce at McDonald's promotional website.

The sauce is one of 10 being highlighted in a series of posters celebrating the chain's selection of sauces, and while Rick and Morty isn't explicitly mentioned in the announcement, the Adult Swim show's influence is clear on the event.

"After nearly 20 years (and perhaps a bit of time travel) we’re even doing the impossible," McDonald's explanation of the event reads, while the Szechuan Sauce poster's description says that the sauce's fans' "impulsivity can get them into all sorts of hijinks, but their mad genius is their portal out of trouble."

Rick and Morty's third-season premiere first brought Szechuan Sauce, which McDonald's originally released in promotion of Disney's Mulan in 1998, back into conversation. Rick goes on a rant toward the premiere's end, calling the "nine more seasons" it would take to get the dipping sauce he wanted back his "series arc."

Following the premiere, which aired in a livestream on April 1, and the demands by fans for a revival of the sauce, McDonald's sent Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and a few fans jars of the dipping sauce.
