Pirates of the Caribbean Pinball Looks Cooler Than the Movies

Pirates of the Caribbean will be the next game from Jersey Jack Pinball, complete with a full-color screen, a miniature, rocking boat playfield, and a barnacle-encrusted limited edition cabinet.

Pinball, video games, and film are slowly converging with the newest round of pinball machines from Jersey Jack Pinball (The Wizard of Oz, The Hobbit) and Stern Pinball Inc. (Star Wars), which combine clips and sounds from movies with interactive graphics and menus straight out of modern video games.

Pirates of the Caribbean includes movie clips and sounds from all five Pirates movies on a 27" HD monitor, but you probably won't have a chance to look up at the screen while playing if these gameplay features shown off so far are any indication:

A miniature, upper playfield resembling a ship rocks back and forth while you try to make shots with a pair of mini flippers.

Three concentric spinning rings/discs not only send your ball flying, but also serve as "an interactive concentric map with 216 useable combinations for gamers to experience." That should help you experience a variety of the "3.25 sextillion game play variations" Jersey Jack Pinball says it modes (and 22 selectable characters) offer.

A ramp diverts your ball into a cool whirlpool trap kind of like the classic Williams game, White Water.

There are three models of the game available, each with a different art package and price. You can read about the model differences here, but the three models are priced at $8,500, $9,500, and $12,500 for the standard, Limited Edition and Collector's Edition, respectively. The machines are available for preorder now, which means you can play them in your local arcade soon (Before you laugh: Retro arcades and pinball joints are on the rise in most major cities and could use your support, look 'em up!).

This is not the first Pirates themed machine, as Stern Pinball Inc. released their Pirates of the Caribbean machine back in 2006 -- you should be able to tell the difference at your local arcade by the large full-color screen in the new game.
