Forza 7: Controversial VIP Changes Reversed

Turn 10 responds to fan outcry.

Alan Hartman, Studio Head of Turn 10 - the developer behind the Forza Motorsport series - has responded to fan outcry around controversial changes to its VIP Member system, penning an open letter to the community and apologising for the upset, assuring fans that a feature is being worked on that will provide double credits for all VIP members, as well as providing an immediate 1 million credit apology.

In previous installments in the Forza Motorsport series, VIP membership was a high-value commodity; not only did it provide exclusive cars and access to VIP-only online events, but it also provided double credits to VIP members, enabling accelerated progress through the game.

That latter aspect of the VIP membership became much more limited in Forza 7, with the double credit boost becoming an expendable resource, effectively capping the double credit increase at 25 races. This wasn't communicated in the publicity material for the VIP editions of Forza 7, and many fans - expecting the same perks they had previously enjoyed - were understandably annoyed at having paid a higher price for what they saw as reduced content.

There is no word yet on when the double credit update will drop, with Turn 10 asking players to keep their eyes peeled for an update, but it's safe to say that this will be an immediate priority for the team, given the significant negative feedback the move has garnered,

Turn 10 has also gifted all VIP members four additional cars:

  • 2016 Jaguar F-Type Project 7 Forza Edition
  • 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Forza Edition
  • 2017 Acura NSX Forza Edition
  • 2010 Maserati Gran Turismo S Fora Edition

As an aside to the main bulk of the apology letter, Hartman also acknowledges that there have been some stability and performance issues on PC, assuring fans that the team is working "around the clock" to investigate and fix any performance issues, with an update for the game already live for PC players and further work to come.
