Legendary Pictures is rumored to have a few action stars in mind for the main role of Detective Pikachu.
According to That Hashtag Show, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson are all allegedly among the studio's top choices to voice the titular character. However, none of the actors have taken any meetings yet about the role.
Detective Pikachu will be directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps, Shark Tale, Monsters vs Aliens), with Marvel screenwriter Nicole Perlman and Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch writing the screenplay.
The film will begin production in London in January of next year.
The massive success of Pokemon Go is said to have fueled the decision to move forward with the film. While a Detective Pikachu video game, dubbed Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Team, was released in Japan last year, the game has yet to make its way to the west.
