Death Comes for the Ten Realms in Thor #700

It's a bad time to be a god.

The Mighty Thor #700 offers a taste of things to come for the series in Marvel Legacy, and it's not looking good for these Thors.

While this issue features a number of intertwined stories, the main conflict involves the Odinson defending Karnila and her fellow Norns from Malekith's army. Malekith's goal is to destroy the home of the Norns and the threads of fate they weave. Basically, he thinks that be destroyign fate, nothing will stand in the way of him becoming ruler of the Ten Realms.

Malekith ultimately succeeds in this issue, but not before Karnila peers into the future and glimpses some of the key developments awaiting the Odinson, Jane Foster and their allies.

The image above teases numerous upcoming plot twists in the series. The most significant tease is that the Odinson is wielding a new gold hammer and appears to have regained his worthy status. Other events teased include Loki wielding both the Infinity Gauntlet and sword of Gorr the God-Butcher (we're not sure which is worse), New York invaded by Frost Giants, the Celestials ordering the destruction of Earth, the arrival of Mangog, and what looks to be the death of Jane Foster on the Moon.

Given that this story arc is titled "The Death of the Mighty Thor," that last one is an all too real possibility. Further complicating matters is the fact that Karnila dies in the middle of trying to warn the Odinson about Jane's fate.

One of these prophecies already came true by the end of this issue. #700 ends with Volstagg reclaiming Ultimate Mjolnir and becoming the War Thor again, only to come face-to-face with the all-powerful Mangog. Mangog promptly devoured Thor's goats, and Volstagg's own fate is looking pretty grim at this point.
